WASHINGTON, Aug. 2 (UPI) — Democratic National Committee chief executive Amy Dacey reportedly resigned from her position Tuesday over controversial leaked emails that appear to show the committee favored Hillary Clinton over Bernie Sanders.
Sources told Politico Tuesday that Dacey was on her way out, and that more DNC employees will likely follow as the Democrats may attempt to clean house.
The CEO’s departure follows last week’s leak of about 20,000 internal emails that critics say showed an unfair preference by party officials for Clinton as the nominee.
The source of the leak is unclear but authorities are looking into the possibility they were obtained by Russian hackers who reportedly breached a DNC network earlier this year.
Dacey is the second high-ranking DNC official to resign over the email leak in the last nine days. Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz announced her departure on the eve of the party’s convention in Philadelphia last week, two days days after the leaked emails were posted online.
DNC Vice Chairwoman Donna Brazile has replaced Shultz as interim chair, but it’s unclear who will succeed Dacey.
