MILLCREEK, Utah, Feb. 15, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Unified Police officials took a parole fugitive into custody after he called attention to his location with a loud domestic dispute on a Millcreek sidewalk during a driving snow storm.

“We got a call on a possible domestic situation where there’s a male and a female walking down Fisher Lane and they had a kid with them,” said Lt. Manfred Lassig, Unified Police Department. “They were arguing. Yelling was going on.”

Officers arrived to the area of 2300 E. Fisher Lane at about 12:45 a.m. Friday, but were not able to locate the man, woman, or the infant, who was about 6 months old, Lassig said.

“We did spot the male at one point and he fled from us,” he said. “Doing some investigation, we figured out the identity of the male — basically an escapee from the ankle-monitoring program, and he had some felony warrants for him.”

The UPD set on a containment area and brought in police dogs.

“We found the male just off the (Rosecrest Elementary) school property here, hiding in a back yard,” Lassig said. “One of the dogs located him, and we were able to get him into custody. He’ll go back to jail.”

The man was wanted on numerous felony warrants.

Police learned that the woman and infant had gone to a Salt Lake City address, and called Salt Lake City police to do a welfare check, primarily due to the freezing temperatures, the heavy snow falling at that time, and the age of the child.

“We want to make sure the child is OK,” Lassig said. “There was a decent amount of snow coming down and it was fairly chilly. There are no charges against the woman. If they are warm, great. And he goes back to jail tonight.”
