SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, April 19, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints reported on Tuesday that among the 413 people known to have died as a result of 7.8-magnitude earthquake that hit Ecuador are six members of the LDS Church.

Five additional members of the LDS Church were injured, according to the news statement. In the general population, the number of injured has now surpassed 2,000, according to numerous reports.

The LDS news statement provided no further details about the church members killed, except to say that five were members of the Protoviejo Stake, and the sixth was a member of the Manta Stake.

An LDS Church statement released Sunday, the day after the quake, said that all LDS missionaries in Ecuador were safe and accounted for.

The statement released on Tuesday revealed that a dozen LDS chapels were damaged by the seismic activity, but the severity of damages has not yet been determined.
