LDS officials ‘extend our love’ to victims of Florida school attack, reveal 2 Church members shot

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Feb. 15, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has confirmed that two teenagers shot in the attack Wednesday on a high school in Parkland, Fla., were members of the faith.

Alaina Petty, 14, died from her injuries. Madeleine Wilford, 17, was seriously injured.

“Once again, we find ourselves as a nation and as communities faced with a tragic loss of life and incomprehensible sorrow following the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida,” the Church said in prepared statement.

“Among the many injured or killed were two members of our faith. To all of the victims and their loved ones, we extend our love. These are hours filled with grief, emptiness and a terrible sense of loss. We unite our prayers with millions of others who are mourning and praying for them.”

The school was attacked Wednesday by a heavily armed former student. Seventeen children and adults died, and more than a dozen more were injured, some of them critically.

Suspect Nikolas Cruz, 19, who was expelled for for behavioral problems, has been charged with 17 counts of premeditated murder.
