SALT LAKE CITY, Nov. 10, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Police investigators were called to the scene of a fatal officer-involved shooting near 816 N. Sir Philip Drive in Salt Lake City Friday night.

According to SLCPD officers, the male suspect was shot at least three times — once in the chest and twice in the back — at about 8:08 p.m. He was taken by ground ambulance to Intermountain Medical Center in Murray, where he was pronounced dead a short while later.

No police officers were injured in the shooting, according to Salt Lake City Police Sgt. Brandon Shearer. He said at least one officer fired his weapon, but the circumstances surrounding the shooting have yet to be determined.

West Valley City Police Department will conduct an investigation into the shooting as per the Utah’s Officer Involved Critical Incident protocol. The OICI requires outside agencies to investigate all officer-involved shootings.
