Update: Man shot outside Newgate Mall in Ogden, suspect arrested

OGDEN, Utah, Sept. 29, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Police responded to reports of a shooting Saturday night outside of Newgate Mall, a busy shopping center at 36th Street and Wall Avenue.

Ogden Police Lt. Chris Kovalsky told Gephardt Daily the incident, which was called in by several people just before 8:20 p.m., took place in the south parking lot of the mall.

The victim, a man in his 20s, was transported to the hospital, where he is in stable condition with injuries that are not life-threatening, Kovalsky said. He is expected to make a full recovery.

In a news release shortly after 1 a.m. Sunday, Ogden Police said the suspect fled in a vehicle, which was immediately spotted by officers.

The suspect, Octavio Mendez, was taken into custody and booked into Weber County Jail on several charges, the news release said.
