MIDVALE, Utah, July 5, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — Three people were injured and 100 more forced to flee their homes after an early morning fire Wednesday at the Chelsea Park Apartments in Midvale.
Unified firefighters were called to the scene around midnight after receiving numerous 911 calls.
When crews arrived they found heavy smoke and flames pouring from a second-story apartment.
They also found three people who were injured — two of whom escaped the flames by jumping from their second-story residences.
The third was hurt trying to catch one of the leapers.
All three were treated for minor injuries.
Unified Fire Authority Battalion Chief Steve Prokopis told Gephardt Daily three apartments were destroyed by the flames, while numerous others sustained serious smoke and water damage.
Residents from 38 units — about 100 people in all — were displaced by the fire.
The cause of the blaze has yet to be determined.
