NORTH CAROLINA, Jan. 24, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A 3-year-old North Carolina boy who went missing from his grandmother’s back yard on Tuesday has been found alive.

Casey Lynn Hathaway had been playing outside the home, in a rugged and rural area, when he disappeared. Concern was high for the 25-pound boy, who stands 2 feet 2 inches tall. The area has been described as having multiple drops and natural holes.

The Craven County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the boy has been recovered.

“Casey has been found alive,” says a statement on the department’s Facebook page, posted at about 8:45 p.m. Utah time.

“He was located by professional search and rescue crews off Toler and Aurora Roads. He is in good health, is talking and being evaluated by doctors at Carolina East Medical Center. He is with his family. Thank you all for helping us #FindCasey.”

Casey was found was tangled in briars about 50 yards from his grandmother’s residence, officials said at a news conference.
