AMERICAN FORK, Utah, Aug. 29, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A motorcyclist died Thursday morning after a minivan turned into his path in American Fork.

The name of the motorcyclist, a man in his late 20s, has not yet been released, pending family notification.

“It happened around 8:15,” Sgt. Josh Christensen, American Fork Police Department, told Gephardt Daily. The scene was at 860 E. State St.

“Officers arrived and found the motorcyclist in critical condition, and unfortunately, he passed away at the scene.

“From what we gather, the motorcyclist was traveling eastbound on State, and a vehicle traveling westbound turned in front of the motorcycle. The motorcyclist struck the side of the vehicle.”

Christensen said no one inside the vehicle, which was a minivan, was injured.

“We are trying to determine cause,” of the accident, and the minivan’s turn, Christensen said. “We are not suspecting any impairment.”

The sergeant said at about 10 a.m. that he expected the roadway to be closed for the investigation at least a couple more hours.

Gephardt Daily will provide additional information on the accident as it becomes available.
