SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Jan. 29, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — New details have been released in the case of a man fatally stabbed Saturday in Salt Lake City. His stepson has been charged with the killing.

According to court documents, Salt Lake City police responded to the scene of a reported stabbing, at 756 E. 1700 South, just before 1 a.m. on Saturday.

The victim, identified on Monday as Johnny Postlethwait, 54, was found deceased at the scene, the police statement says. Suspect Charles Anthony Petrie, 30, was taken into custody.

“A witness heard the victim screaming and ran into his bedroom to find out what was going on,” the statement says.

“Upon entering the bedroom, the witness observed the a/p (accused or arrested person) on the victim’s bed with both of his hands on the knife, pushing it down into the victim’s chest.

“During this time, the victim told the witness, ‘He’s f****ing killing me.’

“The witness wrestled the a/p off the victim. The a/p was taken to the police station for processing. During the interview, detectives observed blood all over the a/p’s hands, shirt and shoes. The victim is the stepfather of the a/p.”

The reporting officer noted that the victim had been resting on his back on the bed when he was stabbed.

Petrie was arrested on charges of first-degree felony murder.

He had been released from jail on unrelated charges just 15 hours earlier.
