Pedestrian critically injured when driver careens onto sidewalk in West Valley City

WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, April 27, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A 37-year-old man is in critical condition Friday night, after he was struck by a vehicle in the area of 5600 West and 3100 South.

West Valley City Police Lt. Steve Burke told Gephardt Daily the incident happened at 5:38 p.m. when a 52-year-old woman experienced a medical issue as she was driving southbound on 5600 West.

Her vehicle veered into the northbound lane and onto the sidewalk, hitting the man. Burke said she then hit a cinder block wall and a power pole.

The injured pedestrian was first transported by ground ambulance to Jordan Valley Medical Center West, and was then flown to University of Utah Hospital in critical condition.

Burke said the woman was not injured in the accident, but was treated for her medical issue and released.

Detectives are still investigating the incident, Burke said.
