The warrant was served for Yohannes’ DNA, according to information from the SLCPD. Yohannes has not yet been ruled out as a suspect in the case.

The stabbing for which Yohannes was being sought happened at 9:25 p.m. on Nov. 7 behind a Dollar Tree store at 477 N. 300 West. Candace Rose Samples, 20, died as a result of her injuries.

A second victim, an adult male, was transported in critical condition to an area hospital and treated for his stabbing injuries. The attacks grew out of a dispute over property, SLCPD previously said.

Yohannes was named as a person of interest on Wednesday, Nov. 14. That night, the University of Utah issued a “high alert” after learning that Yohannes has been in the Marriott Library that morning.
