SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, March 29, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — Unified police announced Friday that the man whose body was found Thursday afternoon in a car near the top of Emigration Canyon took his own life.

“The person found in Emigration Canyon has been identified,” a Unified Police Department tweet says.

“His name is not being released out of respect for the family, as it has been determined to be a suicide.”

Unified Police Department Detective Ken Hansen told Gephardt Daily at approximately 5:30 p.m, officials received information that there was a car about a mile-and-a-half from the top of the canyon that had a tarp over the top of it and there was yellow smoke billowing out.

“Our officers stopped by and removed the tarp and noticed there was an individual in the car, about mid-30s, who is deceased,” Hansen said. “It appeared there was some briquettes in the trunk that had been lit.”
