SOUTH JORDAN, Utah, Sept. 30, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A South Jordan man was arrested Wednesday morning after police responded to a domestic violence call at his residence.

According to the police report, 42-year-old Santiago Steven Maese severely beat a woman at his home a few hours earlier.

While South Jordan police officers were investigating the incident, they observed firearms in the residence. A search warrant was obtained and, on Saturday, officers served the warrant on Maese’s residence and recovered 27 firearms.

A probable cause affidavit filed by a South Jordan police officer states that on the night of Tuesday, Sept. 24, Maese held down the female victim in the front entryway of his residence and repeatedly choked and punched her until she couldn’t breath and lost partial consciousness.

“Maese also caused severe swelling to the victim’s eyes and lips and made her nose bleed,” the statement says.

The victim was transported to the hospital by ambulance for medical care.

In that domestic violence incident, Maese was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, a second-degree felony. His bail was set at $10,000.

On Saturday, Maese was re-arrested and charged with 27 counts of possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person, a third-degree felony.

He also was charged with 27 counts of violation of a protective order, a class A misdemeanor.

Maese is prohibited from having a firearm because of a protective order issued in August of this year as a result of an earlier domestic violence case.

He was booked into Salt Lake County Jail on Saturday with bail set at $50,000.
