Police seek public’s help identifying ‘Boonie Hat Bandit’ suspected in 2 bank robberies

SALT LAKE COUNTY, Utah, Aug. 2, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a suspect in two bank robberies.

According to a Unified Police Department news release, on Monday, July 1, the suspect, whom police are calling the “Boonie Hat Bandit,” entered the Mountain America Credit Union, at 1298 E. Murray Holladay Road, in Salt Lake City, and robbed the bank of an undisclosed amount of money. He then fled on foot.

Today, the same man robbed the Cyprus Credit Union, at 3578 W. 4700 South, in West Valley City.

The suspect is described as Hispanic, in his mid-40s, about 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 9 inches tall, with a heavy build. He is balding and was wearing a boonie hat.

The Unified and West Valley City police departments, in conjunction with the FBI, are seeking to identify this individual.

Anyone who recognizes the suspect or who knows of his whereabouts is asked to call police dispatch at 801-743-7000.
