MORGAN, Utah, May 23, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — A Salt Lake City man died Wednesday evening after crashing a personal watercraft into rocks at East Canyon State Park.
Benjamin Paul Rosser, 30, was riding a personal watercraft alone about 7:30 p.m. when he crashed into rocks along the reservoir’s west side, Utah State Parks said in news release.
A nearby fisherman heard the crash, saw the wreckage and immediately called for help, the release says.
Rangers responded via patrol boat and recovered Rosser, who succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Utah State Parks.
Rosser, who was originally from Pennsylvania, was wearing a lifejacket at the time of the crash, officials said.
“The Utah Division of State Parks extends our condolences to Rosser’s family and friends,” the release says.
The crash remains under investigation.
The Morgan County Sheriff’s Office and Morgan County Emergency Services also responded to the incident, Utah State Parks officials said.
With Memorial Day weekend approaching, state parks officials ask those who plan to recreate to do so safely.
“Always recreate with a buddy, wear your life jackets and helmets, and let somebody know where you are going and when to expect your return. Checking weather conditions and water temperatures is also vital. Pack appropriate gear for your activity and stay hydrated while outdoors,” the release says.
