AMARILLO, Texas, June 14, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — The Randall County Sheriff’s Office has reported that an armed shooter and hostage incident Tuesday afternoon in an Amarillo Wal-Mart has ended with the hostages released and the armed shooter dead.

“We want to thank everyone who helped spread the word today during the intense hostage situation at Wal-Mart,” the RCSO posted on its Facebook page.

“Your shares helped us keep the area clear during an extremely dangerous situation, and helped us inform the public in a very timely manner.

“Again, the hostages were freed within the past half hour after the suspect was shot and killed by Amarillo Police Department SWAT team members.”

The Wal-Mart is at 4215 Canyon Drive in the northern Texas city. Some shoppers were evacuated from the west side of the store prior to the SWAT team action.
