BRULE COUNTY, S. Dakota, Nov. 30, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — Nine people died Saturday when a single-engine passenger plane crashed in inclement weather in rural Brule County, S. Dakota.

The Brule County Sheriff’s Office on Facebook shared a statement by Theresa Maule Rossow, Brule County State’s Attorney, saying 12 people were on board the aircraft, which was en route from Chamberlain, S. Dakota, to the state of Idaho.

The three survivors were transported to Sioux Falls for treatment of their injuries.

Those on board were reportedly residents of Idaho Falls, Idaho.

“The FAA and NTSA have been notified and will investigate the crash,” Rossow’s statement said. “The men and women of law enforcement, first responders and medical professionals should be commended in their heroic actions to rescue the victims in the extreme weather conditions.”

Rossow posted on her own Facebook page, “There has been an accident. Pray for the victims, the first responders and medical personnel. They all need God’s grace and help.”

NBC News said the Federal Aviation Administration confirmed that a “Pilatus PC-12, a single-engine turboprop passenger plane, had as many as 12 people on board when it crashed shortly after takeoff about a mile from Chamberlain Municipal Airport.”
