Sixth-grader Gets High Marks for ‘Nudging’ Obama Along Interview

During an educational event Thursday, during which students vied to ask the commander in-chief a question, the Maryland sixth-grader acted as the moderator. And if you read some of the reviews, he did a better job than some professional journalists who moderate presidential debates every four years.

Obama met with the students as an initiative to get more kids interested in reading. As politicians often do, there were times Obama got a bit carried away with his answers. And Osman would have none of it.

The government’s chief executive, for example, started in on a rather long-winded answer to one student’s question, whether Obama enjoyed reading — an inquiry that had been posed earlier. As he went on, Osman moved to stay on track.

“I think you’ve sort of covered everything about that question,” Osman said, effectively cutting off the remainder of the president’s response.

“Mr. President, let’s move on to the next question,” he said at another moment.
