SANDY, Utah, Dec. 6, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — It was a somber, snow-swept scene in a Sandy City cemetery on Wednesday, where hundreds of mourners braved freezing temperatures to bid farewell to fallen South Salt Lake Police Officer David Romrell.

Romrell, 31, died in the line of duty Nov. 24 while responding to burglary call.

He leaves behind a wife and 4-month-old son.

A former U.S. Marine, Romrell had joined the South Salt Lake Police Department less than a year ago.

He is the first police officer to die in line-of-duty in the department’s history.

Family, friends and law enforcement officers from across the state attended Wednesday’s service, complete with bagpipes, honor guards, and a rifle volley by Romrell’s Marine friends.

Police dispatchers also carried out the emotional Last Call — also known as The End of Watch.
