EMERY COUNTY, Utah, Oct. 28, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — Two people died Sunday as the result of a rollover crash on westbound Interstate 70 near Green River.

The crash happened at 3:55 p.m. at milepost 157, Utah Highway Patrol Cpl. Andy Battenfield said.

A Ford Excursion went out of control and drifted left to the median, overcorrected across all lanes of traffic, and then veered back, rolling over and landing on its wheels, Battenfield told Gephardt Daily.

The vehicle’s two occupants, a 38-year-old woman and a 29-year-old man, were not wearing seat belts and were ejected when the Excursion rolled.

Battenfield said the woman died at the scene, and the man was transported to Green River Hospital about four miles away to be stabilized and await a medical airlift. He was pronounced deceased at 6 p.m.

The man and woman were from Huntington Beach, California, but no other information was available late Sunday night pending notification of next of kin.

Battenfield said the incident is still under investigation and it isn’t yet known why the vehicle went out of control.

Gephardt Daily will update this story as more information becomes available.
