OGDEN, Utah, June 1, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Utah Department of Transportation wants everyone to be aware that railroad crossings from Salt Lake City northward will be busier than usual for the next two weeks.

A tweet from UDOT Region One on Friday night says the crossings at 2700 North, West Harrisville Road, Second Street, and 12th Street in the Ogden area will be especially busy because of a tunnel collapse in Oregon, making it necessary for rail traffic to be rerouted through Utah.

UDOT advises using 21st, 24th and 31st streets or Riverdale Road to avoid delays.

The rerouting will affect Union Pacific rail lines from Salt Lake City north into Idaho.

According to Trains, a Union Pacific spokesman said the tunnel roof collapsed Tuesday while maintenance was being conducted. No one was injured.

UP officials said the tunnel is in a “remote and difficult-to-access location.”
