NORTHERN UTAH, March 5, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — The Utah Department of Transportation has a new tool in its quest to release avalanches under safe and controlled conditions.

It’s called the Avalauncher, and UDOT has purchased three. The agency tested one on Tuesday in Provo Canyon, a tweet says.

“This compressed-gas launcher is mobile and can help crews be more accurate in control efforts,” the UDOT tweet says. “It’s most often used outside of Little Cottonwood Canyon.”
