KEARNS, Utah, Dec. 12, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — Firefighters pulled a man from a burning house Tuesday after they responded to several calls about smoke and flames in the area of 5900 South and 4000 West.

The fire started a little before 4:30 p.m. and was extinguished fairly quickly.

Eric Holmes, public information officer for Unified Fire Authority, said crews called in a second alarm almost immediately upon arrival because of the large amount of smoke pouring from the structure.

Crews wanted to get as much water on the blaze as quickly as possible, Holmes said. They wanted to knock down as much fire as they could and then enter the building.

“We do a very rapid search of the main floor of the residence to make sure there’s nobody around,” he said. “We did happen to find one patient. They got him out as quickly as possible. He was worked on at the scene by paramedics, then transported to a local hospital.”

Holmes said the fire was toward the front of the house, and “the patient was more toward the rear of the home” on the main floor, not in the room where the fire was.

Asked about the origin of the fire, Holmes said it was still under investigation.

He added that officials treat every fire as suspicious, but said there was nothing known yet about this fire that would make it different from any other.

The front windows were blown out of the house, and there was a lot of charring, but Holmes didn’t have an estimate of damages.

Investigators were still on scene later in the evening.
