Both a UPD officer and a West Valley City Police officer deployed separate sets of spike strips in an effort to stop the vehicle, and eventually it came to a halt.

Gray said a juvenile male and a juvenile female fled from the vehicle. The female was Tased by officers, and both were taken into custody.

It’s not clear at this point whether the two taken into custody were connected to the alleged assault, reported in the area of 3450 E. Oakview Drive just after 10 p.m. Friday.

A group of men approached a male and female juvenile. Gray said it’s not clear at this time exactly how many men approached the pair. The only description of the suspects is that they are black.

The group of men allegedly assaulted the male juvenile and took his cellphone and wallet. They also tried to leave with the male juvenile’s car, but were not successful.

The group of men then fled from the scene in the suspect vehicle.

Police in Sandy found a group in the Hyundai Elantra and attempted to take them into custody, however, the men fled the scene and police were not able to catch them. Midvale Unified Police Department also spotted the group, but also could not apprehend them.
