Woman who died in Lake Powell boating accident ID’d

SPANISH FORK, Utah, June 17, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A young woman who died in a boating accident Friday on Lake Powell has been identified by her friends and family.

Jayla Ann Hiatt, of Spanish Fork, was a passenger on a boat that struck a rock near the shoreline. The impact threw the 18-year-old from the boat onto the shore, where she died from her injuries.

The driver of the watercraft, Triston Harrison, 21, has been charged with automobile homicide criminal negligence DUI of alcohol/drugs, a second-degree felony; and DUI with serious bodily injury by negligent operation, a third-degree felony.

On Saturday, as more people learned of Hiatt’s death, friends and relatives expressed their shock and grief on social media.

The recent high school graduate worked at Glade’s Drive-Inn in Spanish Fork, where her employer announced on Facebook that all tips and donations between Saturday, June 15, and Monday, June 17, will go directly to Hiatt’s family to help cover funeral expenses.

A GoFundMe account has also been established in Hiatt’s name.
