MARNE-LA-VALLEE , France, April 4 (UPI) — A Disneyland Paris employee was found dead in the theme park’s haunted house, minutes before the park opened.
The discovery was made Saturday morning. The 45-year-old man, whose name has not been made public, is believed to have been accidentally electrocuted while working on lighting in the “Phantom Manor,” described by the park as a “fun-filled mystery” featuring “ghoulish ghosts and spirits.”
The victim was a father from nearby Noisy-le-Grand, and had been employed at the park since 2002. He was “someone who always had a smile on his face,” Disneyland union representative Patrick Maldidier told the French newspaper Le Parisien. His body was found by fellow employees.
The park, which had 14.2 million visitors in 2014, remains open, but the haunted house attraction will remain closed until at least Wednesday while police from the Paris suburb of Chessy investigate the incident.
The initial examination indicated the victim suffered an “accidental death by electrocution,” a spokesman for the Meaux prosecutor’s office said.
