Cheese Truck Explosion

LONDON — The M1 motorway in Northamptonshire was closed on Monday evening after a cheese lorry burst into flames. Eyewitnesses on the scene reported explosions before fire crews arrived at around 7:30 p.m. One driver caught up in traffic, Max Earey, used the delay to photograph the blaze and posted the images to Twitter.

“I could see something on fire in the distance but cars were still getting by — then a couple of lorries stopped to hold the traffic back as they could tell it might get a whole lot worse, which it did,” he told reporters.

“There were a couple of explosions and then the emergency services turned up.”

The M1 is still closed, with traffic being routed off the motorway and back on again at Junction 18. No one was injured in the fire.
