WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, Dec. 30, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Two suspects were in custody Saturday night, and officers expect to round up a third one in a hit-and-run crash involving a borrowed truck, a parked vehicle, and a building.
West Valley City Police Lt. Justin Wyckoff told Gephardt Daily that three “younger men” were attempting to negotiate a turn from 3500 South onto southbound 6800 West.
“They were going too fast and hit the concrete base of a sign,” Wyckoff said. “Then the truck slid into a garage bay, which struck the parked vehicle inside.”
The bay is part of the Cash Saver auto shop at 6809 W. 3500 South.
The three men in the truck fled the scene, Wyckoff said, but two of them were apprehended a short distance away.
“We know who the third one is, so he’ll be brought in, too,” Wyckoff said.
A building inspector checked out the damage to Cash Saver and determined that the building is structurally sound, but the bay should not be used until it’s completely repaired.
Wyckoff said the two suspects in custody are being booked on charges of leaving the scene of an accident and possession of another person’s I.D.
No drugs or alcohol are suspected in this incident, Wyckoff said.
And the truck was not stolen, he added. It was lent to the trio by a friend.
