PROVO, Utah, May 7, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A 27-year-old woman is in critical condition after she was shot in the head in Provo Tuesday afternoon.

Provo Police Sgt. Nisha King told Gephardt Daily the incident took place at approximately 4:05 p.m. in the area of 370 E. Center St. That location is a residential area, but it’s not clear at this stage if the shooting took place inside or outside a residence.

The woman was taken to Utah Valley Hospital in Provo in critical condition, King said.

A 27-year-old man called police to report the shooting, King added, and at this time he is a “person of interest” in the case. He has been detained, she said, and is being considered “the only involved person.”

King said it’s too early to say what the relationship is between the man and the woman.

Neither the man or the woman have been identified by officials.

Eastbound Center Street between 300 East and 400 East is closed while police investigate the shooting, King said, and drivers are being asked to avoid the area.

Gephardt Daily will have more on this developing story as information is made available.
