DELTA, Utah, July 11, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — An early-morning fire in Delta destroyed a popular, decades-old roller skating rink, forcing it to permanently close its doors.

Millard County Dispatchers received a 911 call saying smoke could be seen coming from Rammie’s Roller Skating Rink, at 1521 E. Main St.

When Delta City Fire Department firefighters and deputies from the Millard County Sheriff’s Office arrived, heavy smoke was coming out of the building. The Hinckley Fire Department was called in to assist with the fire.

Although the fire was contained to the south end of the building, water damage and smoke had spread throughout the entire business.

Investigators determined the fire started due to an electrical issue inside the south wall of the building.

A preliminary estimate of damage is said to be more than $150,000.

In a post on Rammie’s Roller Skating Rink Facebook page, the owners said the building is a total loss.

“We appreciate all the memories that have been created within the confines of the metal walls and will continue to cherish them. We are extremely grateful for all of those who continually visited us and made the atmosphere an enjoyable one to be a part of. Thank you all for your many years of support, we will never forget the best part of the entire business-our customers.”
