HOLLADAY, Utah, June 10, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — Firefighters worked to contain a field fire that burned over an acre at a popular Holladay Park Friday afternoon.

Matthew McFarland, spokesperson for Unified Fire Department, said the fire started at approximately 1:30 p.m., at Creekside Park located at 1664 E. Murray Holladay Rd.

“There were about 20 firefighters from Unified and Murray City Fire Departments that were able to contain the fire fairly quickly,” McFarland said. “It is contained but not yet fully controlled as they will need to continue to monitor for hot spots to prevent additional flare up.”

McFarland said no one was injured and no structures were threatened.

“This is a popular park for frisbee golf and it is fairly large with a lot of trees and brush,” McFarland said. “We are not sure what started the fire, there is no reason at this point for us to believe this was an intentional act of arson.”

The park is also a popular place for transients to frequent, McFarland said, and there was a smaller fire in this same location a few days ago, but he said there is no indication transients are responsible for the fire.
