SOUTH JORDAN, Utah, Aug. 1, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — A former Saratoga Springs police officer was booked into jail after police say he engaged in unlawful activity with a 16-year-old boy, officials said.
A news release from the Utah County Sheriff’s Office, which is handling the investigation, said the victim told investigators that the suspect, Aaron David Rosen, 46, of South Jordan, arranged to come to his home for sexual activity.
The news release said that on Thursday at approximately noon, Saratoga Springs Police responded to a 911 call after a man arrived home from work and discovered a stranger leaving his home.
“The man said the circumstances were unusual and he was worried about his 16-year-old son who was inside his home,” the news release said. “The stranger left the home by jumping from a second story balcony, getting in his car, and driving away. The father followed the man and was able to get a license plate number from the car.
“He also got a good look at the man as he left the home and as he was driving away at high speed. But because of the high speeds involved the father stopped and returned to his home.”
When the father returned home he spoke to his son and learned he met the stranger through a social media app. When Saratoga Springs Police arrived and the father gave them the information he gathered they learned that the man who left his home was a former police officer with Saratoga Springs PD who had recently retired.”
It was then determined that the Utah County Sheriff’s Office would continue the investigation.
Detectives met with the victim at his home. The victim reported that Rosen began to engage in sexual activity with him, and as that was happening the victim’s father arrived home early from work. Both the father and the victim identified Rosen from a photo lineup.
Detectives contacted Rosen and arranged to meet with him in Salt Lake County. He acknowledged his involvement with the victim but denied knowing he was a minor.
After interviewing Rosen, detectives arrested him and booked him into the Utah County Jail on one charge of unlawful sexual activity with a minor, a class A misdemeanor. Rosen bailed out of jail about two hours later.
Detectives are still actively investigating information in this case.
