MAGNA, Utah, Jan. 1, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Unified Police officials responded late Sunday night to what they are calling the suspicious deaths of a woman and a child in a home near 2600 South and 8900 West.

Police were called at about 9:30 p.m. by a church member and friend of the deceased.

Salt Lake County Sheriff Rosie Rivera said, “One of the ladies from the Relief Society had dropped off some presents and saw that the presents were still on the doorstep, so she was concerned that they hadn’t been picked up.”

The woman asked police to check on the welfare of the people living in the residence.

When officers arrived, they found two bodies in the home, a 41-year-old woman and a 9-year-old child.

Rivera said the two victims are related, but she gave no details.

It is still early in the investigation, and the forensics team has been working at the scene, Rivera said, adding that officials are not releasing any information on what has been learned so far.

“It’s a really tough case when it involves a child. Extremely tough,” she said.

Gephardt Daily will update this developing story as more details are released.
