SANDY, Utah, Oct. 11, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Sandy police are asking for the public’s help in locating a woman who disappeared after allegedly going camping with a man who said he left her in a remote part of Juab County.
Jan Pearson-Jenkins was last seen by her mother on Oct. 4 when she left to go camping with Cody Young. Pearson-Jenkins and Young told family there were going to the area of Silver City and Eureka, Utah.
The following day, Young texted Pearson-Jenkins’ family, “advising them that they were in an argument and he had left the area,” a notice from the Sandy City Police says.
Pearson-Jenkins did not take her purse or cell phone, and was not dressed appropriate for the cold weather, the police statement says.
“Juab County checked the last known area where Jan was suspected of being, which was out in a remote area,” the Sandy Police Department statement says. “Juab County did not locate any sign of Jan. The nearest town is a ghost town, Silver City, and the nearest real town is Eureka (approximately 4 miles away).
“Police have been unable to locate Cody to speak with him about Jan. We are asking for the public’s help with locating Jan and Cody.”
Pearson-Jenkins is a 64-year-old white woman, about 5 feet four inches tall. She weighs about 130 pounds, and walks slightly hunched over, police said. Her hair is grayish brown, and she has two 10-inch scars on her right arm.
Young is a white male believed to be in his mid 40s. He has a slender build, some facial hair, and stands about 5 feet 5 inches tall. He wears glasses, and often wears his brown hair in a ponytail.
Young is believed to be driving an older (possibly 1980s) dark van with Arizona plate CGA3392. (Police earlier had said the plate was from Tennessee, but updated that information.)
Anyone who recognizes Young or Pearson-Jenkins or has any other information is urged to contact Sandy Police at 801-568-7200 or at our anonymous tip line 801-568-INFO.
