SANDY, Utah, Oct. 27, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — The Sandy Police Department is asking for the public’s help in identifying the person or people responsible for a recent spate of fires.

Sandy Police Sgt. Dean Carriger told Gephardt Daily that detectives from the Sandy and Unified Police departments are investigating a series of fires that have occurred within a three-block radius. He said there are different aspects to the fires, but because of their close proximity, officials suspect the work of a serial arsonist. He said the detectives are following several active leads.

Between Aug. 26 and Oct. 19, eight fires occurred in the area of 400 East and 7500 South. Four involved residential structures and four involved property.

No one has been injured so far, but Sgt. Carriger said the concern is that more fires may occur, endangering lives as well as structures.

Anyone who has any information is asked to call the Sandy Police Department Tip Line at 801-568-INFO (4636).
