NBC’s chief news anchor Brian Williams has been suspended for six months. After “misremembering” an assignment during the 2003 Iraq war and the beginning of an internal investigation, NBC made the decision to suspend the most watched anchor in the US.

The announcement came on Tuesday, February 10th. The six-month suspension is due to several statements from Williams stating that he was in a Chinook helicopter that had been shot down by an RPG while covering the Iraq war.

Williams paid tribute Friday, January 30th, to a veteran who he claims saved his life during an assignment in Iraq. In Williams’ Friday broadcast he states, “When the helicopter we were traveling in was forced down after being hit by an RPG. Our traveling NBC news team was rescued, surrounded, and kept alive by an armored mechanized platoon from the U.S. army third infantry.”

Soon after that broadcast, servicemen took to Facebook to challenge Williams’ credibility regarding the 2003 incident, claiming that Williams was not on the aircraft that was struck.

Wednesday, February 4th, Williams’ issued an apology for the error that he made.

Many will agree that the credibility of Williams has been damaged. The suspension will last six months, but will the NBC anchor really make it back to the Nightly News? The final fate of Williams has yet to be released since the internal investigation has not been completed. Maybe he’ll just need to stick to his rapping career on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.
