TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (Gephardt Daily Staff) – A tense, hours long SWAT standoff in Taylorsville ended Saturday night with a man being taken into custody.
According to Unified Police, officers were called to the scene of a domestic violence situation involving a father and son near 5350 S. Queenswood Drive at about 4:15 Saturday afternoon.
Police say the father was taken to a hospital with unknown injuries as the son locked himself in the home and refused to come out.
Officers were told the man had access to firearms and called in a SWAT team.
According to Unified Police, the SWAT team was shot at but no one was hit.
Neighbors were evacuated or told to stay indoors as negotiators used a bullhorn to make contact with the suspect and urge him to surrender.
There were also reports that tear gas canisters were fired into the home, but the suspect still refused to come out.
SWAT went into the home and took the man into custody around 10 pm.
Officers were still on the scene investigating early Sunday morning.
