TAYLORSVILLE, Utah, May 17, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A wanted man was taken into custody in Taylorsville early Friday morning after police say he turned up at the wrong place at the wrong time.
Unified Police Detective Kevin Mallory told Gephardt Daily the incident began about 10 p.m. when West Valley City dispatchers received a call from a man saying his girlfriend had texted him claiming she was being held against her will.
According to Mallory, a records check by West Valley PD revealed the woman frequented a home near 6300 South 3400 West in Taylorsville.
Unified police officers were sent to the address and “made observations from outside the home that were consistent with the possible scenario” described by the boyfriend, Mallory said.
The SWAT team was called in and officers were in the process of telling neighbors to shelter in place when UPD received word the girlfriend had turned up safe in West Valley City. At the same time, Mallory said, police learned a known fugitive was inside the Taylorsville home.
Police negotiators made contact with the people inside the residence and convinced them to come out voluntarily.
The suspected fugitive was taken into custody, while the others were being questioned by police.
Mallory said it had yet to be determined if any illegal activity was going on inside the home.
As for the fugitive’s arrest, Mallory said the man was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. “We came for one thing and ended with another,” Mallory said.
