Video of Mitt Romney blowing out candles on Twinkie birthday cake goes viral

March 12, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A video of Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) blowing out the candles on a Twinkie birthday cake has gone viral.

Romney shared the one-minute-four-second video on Twitter Tuesday at 7 a.m.

The caption reads: “My team surprised me with a cake made out of my favorite snack—Twinkies! Looking forward to all this year has in store.”

But it’s the video itself that has people talking.

His staffers sing Happy Birthday to him, then Romney says, seeing the cake: “Oh my goodness, what I’ve always wanted! Look at that! Holy cow! That’s fantastic. What are you guys going to have?”

When the cake is set before Romney, he plucks the candles out of the Twinkies, one by one, and blows them out.

“These are all wishes I’m getting. All these wishes,” he says.

The video has been viewed 2.47 million times, with 12,000 likes and 2,500 comments, as of 3 p.m. Tuesday.

One Twitter user wrote: “You may think you don’t need to watch this video of Mitt Romney getting a cake made out of Twinkies, but otherwise how will you find out what completely bizarre way Mitt Romney blows out birthday candles.”

Romney turns 72 today.
