SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Feb. 19, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — Christopher McMillan, the wanted fugitive named Utah’s Public Enemy No. 1 just this last Wednesday, is in custody.
According to Unified Police Lt. Manfred Lassig, officers from the Unified Metro Gang Unit and West Valley City Police ─ acting on a tip ─ began tailing a man and woman around 11:30 p.m., following them as they drove to the Arby’s restaurant at 1700 South and State Street.
Police approached the vehicle as it pulled into the drive-thru and arrested the woman driver, along with a passenger identified as 43-year-old Christoper McMillan.
Police say McMillan was wearing a wig at the time of his arrest.
McMillan has an extensive and violent criminal history. He was charged earlier this week with attempted aggravated murder for allegedly ramming a police car during a high-speed chase. He was also accused of trying to run down another officer who was attempting to spike his tires. In addition, McMillan has been charged with failure to stop at the command of a police officer ─ a third degree felony ─ along with a class B misdemeanor count of reckless driving.
Lt. Lassig told Gephardt Daily McMillan’s arrest was a relief to law enforcement. “It’s good to have him off the street,” Lassig said.
McMillan had been on the run for more than a week, ever since he allegedly removed an ankle monitor he was wearing while awaiting trial on theft and burglary charge. He was also scheduled for an arraignment in regard to an Oct. 2015 domestic shooting, which left his brother wounded.
Authorities were especially anxious to get McMillan off the street after it was determined he had been released on bail in December 2015, despite a request from Adult Probation and Parole that he be returned to prison on probation violations. A bench warrant had since been issued for his arrest
“He has been involved in shootings with police in the past,” said Unified Police Lt. Lex Bell earlier this week. “UPD considers him extremely dangerous and a serious threat to the public and any police officer with whom he comes in contact.”
