SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, June 20, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) â Police have more questions than answers after a woman in her 30s was shot during a botched robbery in Salt Lake City Tuesday evening.
Police received reports of an armed robbery at the Quiznoâs sandwich shop at 1775 S. 4130 West soon after 6:05 p.m., Lt. Justin Hudson with the Salt Lake City Police Department told Gephardt Daily.
âWhen officers arrived, we were also told there were shots fired,â Hudson said. âOnce we got into the scene we noticed that one female was shot. Weâre not exactly sure how sheâs involved, whether sheâs a victim of the robbery or a suspect in the robbery at this time.â
The woman was transported by ambulance to a local hospital in critical condition. Subsequent reports indicate she was shot in the neck and suffering paralysis.
Investigators also say a possible robber may have been shot during the hold-up attempt.
âThere were also two males reported in the area inside the store with a gun at that time,â Hudson said. âThey came in under the ruse of possible customers and it escalated from there.â
One of the men is described as Caucasian with a thin build and light-colored hair, wearing a baseball cap and a black backpack, Hudson said. The other man is described as Hispanic, but there is no further description of him at the moment.
Hudson said the men likely fled on foot.
Police are working to establish whether there is any relationship between the woman who was shot and the two male suspects.
âThere were no customers inside the business when this occurred,â Hudson added. âA customer came in shortly after and assisted the person who was injured, but there were no witnesses other than the employees.â
Hudson said at this time it doesnât appear that anything was taken from the business.
He said more information is likely to be released Wednesday morning. He added that multiple shots were fired, but itâs unclear exactly how many.
