Bus Driver Saves Woman From Jumping off Bridge

BUFFALO, NY – July 28, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) – A Buffalo bus driver received a lot of national attention after doing something completely out of the ordinary for his line of work.

Darnell Barton, a NFTA bus driver saw a woman who appeared to be doing something dangerous, so instead of just driving by, he stopped and talked to her.

During his usual route that included picking up students at McKinley High School, he spotted a woman on the wrong side of the guardrail looking over the overpass.

As hundreds of commuters just pass right by her, Barton stopped the bus, asked her if she was ok and made the decision to help her. He approached the woman and grabbed her arm and helped her back over the guardrail then just sat with her for a minute.

Barton told WIVB that the woman was distraught, distant and really disconnected so he made the decision to grab her and put his arms around her and ask her if she wanted to come on the other side of the railing.

Barton said he felt it was meant to be, that he was supposed to be there for her at that time and he did what he was supposed to do.

Thankfully the woman agreed and was then taken by officers to get help.
