VIDEO: Great White Shark’s Seal Attack Caught On Camera From Alcatraz Ferry

SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 14 (UPI) — A camera aboard a ferry docked at Alcatraz Island captured the moment a great white shark breached the surface of the water to catch a seal.

The video, uploaded to YouTube by user televisionremote, was shot Saturday aboard an Alcatraz Cruises vessel docked at the former prison island and captured the moment the shark emerged from the water to catch the seal.

The video shows the water filling with blood after the shark makes its kill.

David McGuire, director of the San Francisco-based shark conservation group Shark Stewards, said the incident was a positive sign for the ecosystem.

Meredith Coppolo Shindler, a tourist visiting Alcatraz Saturday, captured cellphone footage of the shark swimming around the bloody site of the kill moments after eating the seal.

McGuire estimated the shark seen in the videos was 8 to 10 feet long.
