CAPE TOWN, South Africa, Oct. 21 (UPI) — It’s not quite the Jaws 19 that Back to the Future Part II predicted we would be watching today, but this time it was most definitely personal.

A South African spear fisherman shared video of his terrifying encounter with an “aggressive” great white shark that went into “attack mode” in murky waters.

The video, posted to YouTube by ITZTV, features body camera footage of Johan Potgieter searching for fish off the coast of Cape Town.

Potgieter wrote in the video’s description that he was about 60 feet underewater when he noticed the great white shark nearby.

“I looked to my left the great white was right next to me, that could quite easily been the end of me. I just managed to prod him with my spear,” Potgieter wrote.

The diver said the great white was displaying “very aggressive behavior” and came after him in “attack mode.”

“I thrust my speargun forward with all my might and managed to give him a good prod causing him to veer off again and disappeared into the gloom,” he wrote.

Potgieter said he rushed back to his boat and his diving buddies followed soon behind.

“We all had a good laugh and a huge sigh of [relief],” he wrote.

The video was recorded Aug. 27, but was only posted online this week.
