AVON, Colo., May 2 (UPI) — A Colorado fire department shared video of a fridge-raiding bear being coaxed out of a second-floor apartment by firefighters and sheriff’s deputies.
The Eagle River Fire Protection District said the Engine 7 crew responded with Eagle River sheriff’s deputies about 4:45 a.m. Saturday to an Avon apartment building on a report of a bear in a second-floor living room.
Firefighters said they arrived to find the apartment’s resident had locked himself in a bedroom and the bear was rummaging through the refrigerator.
The video shows the firefighters and deputies coaxing the bear into exiting the apartment and running out into the hallway, where he was captured for relocation.
“No injuries (to humans or bear) were reported,” the fire protection district said.
“ERFPD encourages everyone to keep your windows and doors secured, and ensure garbage and pet food aren’t left out to attract bears. Remember, a fed bear is a dead bear.”
