WOODSTOCK, Ill., Dec. 4 (UPI) — A man in Illinois managed to escape home invaders, but did not call police until he was urged to by a coworker.

The victim, a 40-year-old man from Woodstock, was held hostage after two armed men forced their way into his home and threw him down the stairs to his basement. According to a police press release, he left his home and went to work after he was able to unbind himself.

The man then told the story to one of his coworkers who advised him to call the police, which he did when he returned home later that day.

The incident reportedly occurred at around noon and police were not notified until 5:30 that evening.

Reports said the suspects took several firearms from a safe in the man’s home including a rifle and two pistols.

The suspects were described as Hispanic men in their late teens or early twenties and police believe the crime may have been premeditated.

“We believe that the suspects targeted this particular residence,” Woodstock Deputy Chief John Lieb told the Northwest Herald.

The victim also suffered a foot injury during the invasion, but refused medical attention.
