VICTORIA, British Columbia, Jan. 22 (UPI) — Boudoir photos of a Canadian man intended as a birthday gift for his wife were removed from Facebook for allegedly violating the social network’s terms of service.
Brendon Williams of Victoria, British Columbia allowed photographer Masika Allan of Masika May Photography to post the risqué photos to Facebook after having them compiled into a photo book for his wife. The photos quickly went viral, accumulating around seven million views before the site had them removed.
“So unfortunately someone decided to report my male boudoir photos for nudity (even though he wasn’t naked) and Facebook has taken down my post,” May wrote in a Facebook post “Why must someone ruin the fun for everyone?”
Williams told CBC news that he believes one photo in particular led to the photos being taken down.
“There was a photo where I’m in the bathtub and I’m fully covered up, but I guess someone was pretty uncomfortable with what they saw and had to report it to Facebook,” he said.
Allan later reposted the photos, including the bathtub shot, and cropped them to better fit Facebook’s terms.
“I was extremely disappointed when the photos were removed as he is wearing underwear in the photos just like all my female models,” she said. “There was no nudity in them at all which is why I decided to repost them.”
While she did take the extra effort to ensure Williams’ photos remained on Facebook, May told Global News that she is hesitant to accept requests for other male boudoir shoots in the future.
“It is not something I will be doing,” she said. “I did it for him because he is a friend and I know him. I just don’t know how I feel about men that I don’t know coming to my home and stripping down in front of me.”
