BEPPU, Japan, Nov. 28 (UPI) — The mayor of a Japanese city has pledged to construct an unusual “spa-musement park” after a concept video reached more than a million views.

The city of Beppu posted a video to YouTube last week showing amusement park visitors enjoying rides that had been modified to allow the riders to soak in water from hot springs, or onsen.

Beppu Mayor Yasuhiro Nagano said the city would move forward on plans to build a park like the one seen in the video if the YouTube clip reached a million views — a goal it has now met.

“We were surprised by the rapid, speedy response, which allowed us to reach our target of 1 million views in just four days after the clip was uploaded to YouTube,” Nagano said in a news release.

Nagano said the city is officially moving forward on the “spa-musement park” plans and further announcements will be made in the near future.
