TOKYO, Jan. 29 (UPI) — Nestle Japan announced it is preparing to roll out a new variation on a popular candy: Kit Kat flavored with sake, Japan’s popular rice wine.

The company, which previously sold Japan-exclusive Kit Kat flavors including green tea and wasabi, announced the rice wine-flavored Kit Kats will hit the shelves of Japanese stores Feb. 1.

Nestle Japan said the sake Kit Kats were directly influenced by the success of the green tea variety, which saw 2015’s sales increase by 20 percent over the previous year, a spike attributed largely to the candy’s popularity with tourists.

The sake Kit Kats were created by adding sake powder to the wafers, which are encased in white chocolate.

The company said the candy was designed to leave an aftertaste that mimics the “mellow flavor” of sake.
